She is the personification of creative ability, the URGE to create rather than creation itself. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out what I would name this one, I didn’t want to use the original name Allegory of Inclination…so I offer the viewer the FEELING that hits when I’m on a creative roll…it’s like being on cloud nine. Here is the original:
This is a painting by the great Artemisia Gentileschi, who holds unique status in the Renaissance (not an era where being a female creative would have been easy). She was a renowned talent, and was commissioned to paint something in honour of another master, Michelangelo (speaking of). To make matters more interesting, Artemisia painted the model in the nude…and years later another artist covered her body because…well…prudishness. Anyway, in 2023, a mere year prior to me starting a classical painting series a secret was revealed…the original artwork was uncovered using the most contemporary high-tech imaging tools. Pretty cool huh?

I chose vibrant fantastical colours for my version because I wanted to bring these works into MY world, which is a tornado of bright colours and iridescence. My friend Gal suggested the teal, as all I had was the neon pink sky. Fantastic idea wasn’t it?
Within a few minutes of me sharing an instagram post of my finished painting, a sweet friend reached out enquiring if she could buy her. I love that someone instantly connected. An artist’s dream.
